In July 2019, the Board of Directors identified a need to review and update the Chamber By-laws. A By-law & Policy Task-force was formed, which consisted of various board members and members at large.
The By-law & Policy Taskforce was tasked with:
- Reviewing existing bylaws and make recommended amendments (in accordance with the Board of Trade Act)
- Identify Board Policy gaps between “Best Practices” and existing Brandon Chamber of Commerce Board Policies.
- Develop policies identified as part of the gap analysis and seek Board of Director approval, as developed.
Following initial approval of the board, the proposed by-law amendments are now being presented to the membership for feedback.
The changes are intended to provide more accountability and clarity to members, and provide a better alignment of current practices. The changes are detailed in the proposed bylaws document linked below, which includes a comparison of the new text to the original text.
The Chamber will be hosting two Chamber By-Law Consultation Sessions, where members of the task-force and staff will review the proposed changes, receive feedback on the changes and answer any questions. Virtual consultations have been planned for June 22nd and July 28th – you can register via our online events calendar. You can also provide feedback by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
In accordance with current Brandon Chamber Bylaws, the final proposed by-law amendments will be brought to the members for approval at the September 2020 AGM.
