On November 29th 2018, representatives from the Brandon Chamber of Commerce, along with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and several other Chambers across Manitoba, met with several MLA’s at the Provincial Legislature in Winnipeg to advocate on behalf of business all throughout Manitoba.
Chamber representatives met with several ministers, such as Ron Schuler (Minister of Infrastructure), Blaine
Pederson (Minister of Growth, Enterprise and Trade), Cliff Cullen (Minister of Justice and Attorney General), as well as Wab Kinew, Leader of the Opposition, and Dougald Lamont, Leader of the Manitoba Liberals.
Many issues affecting business in Manitoba were discussed over the course of the day, such as economic competitiveness, capital funding, and skilled labour in the workforce. Recommendations from the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce included:
- Commit to a full review of the provincial personal and corporate tax structures in Manitoba.
- Establish a comprehensive access to capital strategy, to assist increasing access to capital funding for current gaps, such as idea incubators and venture capital funds.
- Commit to provide adequate supports and resources to ensure the effective implementation of the Economic Development Strategy & Provincial Tourism Strategy.
